Encrypt File

HOW TO ENCRYPT A FILE

Help Home
  1. Save and close the file that is to be encrypted. Make sure the file is stored/saved to a location that can be browsed to. Files that are currently "open" or in use on a computer cannot be encrypted or decrypted.

  2. Launch/open the VASE Software Application.

  3. Click on "Proceed" in the "VASE Introduction" Pop-up window.

  4. Within the VASE software in the center "File Selection Window", select the drive (usually "c:") for a hard drive of the files's location.

  5. Under the drive selection window in the larger middle window, browse and select location of the folder of the file to be encrypted.

  6. Names of all the files in that selected folder will appear in the right-middle window, select the desired file (source file) by clicking on the file’s name. To encrypt more than one file, hold “Ctrl” key and click on the additional files. The file’s name should appear highlighted.

  7. At the left of the “File Selection Window”, confirm that “Encrypt” is selected. A darkened radio button will appear next to “Encrypt”.

  8. Confirm the name of the file in the “Source File” box under the File Selection Window.

  9. The proposed name and location of file once encrypted will appear in “Target File” box. Note that “_VTE” will be added to the file name if “Two File” encryption is selected. Name and file location will remain the same if “One File” encryption is selected. See Customizing VASE Software for more information.

  10. At the bottom-right of the VASE Software window, click once on the “Encrypt to Target” button with red border.

  11. File will be encrypted

  12. The encrypted file will be created and stored in the same folder as the original file. It will appear in the file selection window with a “_VTE” added to the file name extension if "Two File" encryption is selected. (eg. “file_name._VTE.docx”). Click on the “Refresh” button if the newly encrypted file with the “_VTE” extension is not listed. If "One File" encryption was selected, the source file will be overwritten, and the original file name will be retained. See Customizing VASE Software for more information.
