  1. I can’t find my decrypted/encrypted file. Try to browse to the location of the source file using “Explore” from the Windows Start menu. When decrypting/encrypting with VASE software, the location of a newly encrypted or decrypted file should be the same folder as the source file – unless the “Target File” name or path was modified. When trying to open a file with its original application select, “All Files” in the “Files of Type” box at the bottom of the Open File dialog box.

  2. How do I know if a file is encrypted? Using “Two File” encryption, an encrypted file will have “_VTE” added to the extension part of the file name. Encrypted files will have an odd-number of “_VTE” in the extension part of the file name. In “One-File”, encryption an encrypted file will have the same name as the source file. If “One File” encryption was done, then the best way to tell if a file is encrypted is to attempt to open the file with its original application. If the file is encrypted, an attempt to open it would result in an error or a junk file.

  3. How do I know if a file is decrypted? Using “Two File” decryption, an encrypted file will have “_VTE” added to the extension part of the file name during decryption. Consequently, a decrypted file will have an even-number of “_VTE” in the extension part of the file name. In “One-File”, encryption an decrypted file will have the same name as the source file with no changes. To determine if that file is encrypted or not, attempt to open it in its original application.

  4. My decrypted file will not open. Make sure you are using the file’s original application (decrypted Word files must be opened in Word, etc.) to open the file.

  5. The software’s license has expired. Contact your organization’s administrator. Your computer’s license has likely expired.

  6. I lost my keycode. It is strongly recommended that users keep a log of keycodes. VASE Software does not keep this information.

  7. Can VASE Software decrypt a file for me? No. There is no backdoor in VASE Software. Your organization’s encryption is likely customized. We strongly suggest you backup your sensitive files on a secure location.
